Lady Cougars drop 11-inning game to Tri-West

Friday, May 2, 2008

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam softball team dropped a close one in an 11-inning affair Wednesday night against Tri-West. The Bruins defeated the Cougars 11-10.

Lauran Green pitched all 11 innings and suffered the defeat for the Cougars (8-7). The freshman began to tire in the ninth, allowing four runs in the inning.

"Up until that point, she'd pitched a great game," North Coach Jim Brothers said.

However, it wasn't all on Green, as the Cougars allowed four unearned runs, including two in the ninth.

"If our defense had made some plays, she might have gotten the win," Brothers commented.

The coach had to give his team credit for coming back, though. They trailed 3-0 after the top of the first, but tied it in the fourth. They also came back to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth.

After matching a Tri-West run in the 10th, they could not come back in the 11th.

"We just kept coming back," Brothers said. "We showed some good resilience."

Taylor Judy and Ashley Doyle each picked up four hits and a home run for the North offense. Carlye McGaughey recorded three hits.

Leah Crosby and Elsiana Crosby each had a pair of hits.

The Cougars host Turkey Run in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. Saturday.
