Richard L. Heacock

Richard L. Heacock died Friday at Putnam County Hospital following an extended illness.

Born in Winslow, Ind., he was the son of Lowell and Genevieve Tisdale Heacock.

Mr. Heacock lived most of his childhood on the west side (Cerealine Town) of Indianapolis. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1954-57 and was stationed in Korea in 1955. He was a self-employed brick mason and later a union mason for 43 years, having retired in 2004.

He married Brenda Brackney on June 21, 1963, and she survives. Additional survivors include daughter, Donna Ford and son-in-law Michael, of Fillmore; a son, Richard Heacock and daughter-in-law Laura, of Brownsburg; six granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Chambers, of Atlanta, Ga., Judy Cubel and husband Bob, of Indianapolis, and Rita McKinney, of Boonville; and a brother, Charles, of Tennessee; father-in-law Jack Brackney, of Greencastle; sisters-in-law Jackie Reynolds, of Poland, Patti Vargo, of Indianapolis, and Lori (Larry) Ford, of Greencastle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Joan Heacock and Billie Jean Johnson, brother James Tisdale, mother-in-law Betty Brackney and sister-in-law Genie Rumley.

Services are being handled by the Cremation Society of Indiana with a military memorial at the Union Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 5998 W. U.S. 36, Greencastle at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24.
