North Putnam closes season with win

COVINGTON -- The North Putnam golfers picked up a win in their final game of the season against Fountain Central 170-184.

Patrick Byrd led the Cougars with a 41 and was followed by Kyle Smith who carded a 42. J.J. Burns added a 43, Jeremy Redman a 44, Aaron Vondersaar a 45 and Austin Malayer closed things out with a 46.

The shot of the night belonged to Fountain Central's Wes Fishero who hit a hole-in-one on the 188-yard second hole. He finished the evening with a 37.

When looking for an explanation of why the scores were a little elevated, the usual suspect popped up once again -- slick greens.

"The greens were very firm and had many tiers, causing both teams to three putt often," North Putnam head coach David Fox said.

The Cougars will compete at the Martinsville Golf Sectional June 2 at 9:30 a.m.
