MATTHEW OWENS, Fillmore, Home School, has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship from Bethel College.

The Presidential Scholarship award ranges from $4,000-$4,500 and is renewable. Owens plans to study Pre-Medicine.

TARA LYNN DAUGHERTY, Greencastle, was inducted into the Alpha Phi Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana on March 15.

Daugherty is majoring in Nursing, and is the daughter of Robert Douglass and Diane Selby of Selinsgrove and Milton, Penn.

She is married to Brent F. Daugherty, Greencastle.

Established in 1918 by two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world.

DANNY ROYER, Bainbridge was recently awarded a Master of Arts degree from Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, Lincoln, Ill.

Royer was one of 107 undergraduates receiving degrees during the schools 63rd Commencement.

DR. MATTHEW R. ANDERSON, formerly of Greencastle, has been named the inaugural Family Medicine Fellow at Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, Ariz., and in that position he will continue to treat patients as well as focus on chronic disease management and academic medicine.

He graduates from the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program, Scottsdale, on June 27.

Anderson also was selected as the only resident in the nation to serve on the Commission of Governmental Advocacy of the American Academy of Family Physicians, which advises Congress on healthcare policy issues.

He attended a Commission meeting May 18-22 in Washington, D.C.

A 1997 graduate of Greencastle High School, Anderson is the son of Larry and Vickie Anderson, Greencastle.

CHRISTIAN A. CHEATHAM, son of Esther E. Hinton, Cloverdale, and Donald K. Cheatham, Reelsville, recently reported for active duty with the U.S. Army.

The 2007 Cloverdale High School graduate is currently taking basic training at Fort Sill, Okla. and will also attend advanced individual training there as a field artillery automated tactical data systems specialist. He has volunteered to serve a four-year tour of duty.

RICHARD KAISER, Cloverdale, received a bachelor's degree in management from Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, on April 26.

KARINA MICHELLE EARNEST received a Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training Magna Cum Laude from the University of Indianapolis. She is the daughter of Steve and Isis Earnest, Reelsville.

She attended Reelsville Elementary and graduated from South Putnam High School in 2004.

Earnest passed the National Athletic Training Certification exam and received her license as ATC, LAT by Board of Certification.

She has accepted a position at the Shelbourne Knee Center in Indianapolis in the Physical Therapy Department.

JESSICA LYNN BERRY, Greencastle, recently graduated Cum Laude with the 2008 class of Miami University of Ohio, in Oxford.

She achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Three Parke/Putnam County students received bachelor of arts degrees from Wabash College on May 11 during the 170th commencement exercise.

KEEGAN McLAUGHLIN, a religion major, graduated recently from Wabash College, Crawfordsville. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith McLaughlin, Roachdale.

JADA BUCHANAN recently represented Ball State University's Department of Journalism at Butler University's Undergraduate Research Conference.

This conference offers students from a variety of disciplines the opportunity to present the results of their research.

Buchanan's research project was titled "Should the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act be Passed?"

Buchanan just completed her sophomore year majoring in public relations. She is a graduate of South Putnam High School and the daughter of Jim and Valerie Buchanan.

PHYLLIS LEGAN, is one of 30 of Indiana's top farmers and agribusiness men and women who have been selected to participate in Class 13 of the Indiana Agricultural Leadership Program (ALP), sponsored by AgrIInstitute.

During the two-year program, ALP class members will attend 12 seminars held throughout Indiana, travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with national leaders and spend 10 to 14 days in a foreign county studying international issues.

Legan is co-owner of Legan Livestock and Grain Inc. Her involvement at the community level is extensive and includes the Putnam County Extension Board, Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District, Farming in the Classroom, Indiana Farm Bureau and Putnam County Ag Week.
