BRAZIL -- The Greencastle golf team picked up a big win over county rival South Putnam Tuesday 316-349, running their record to 14-3 in duel events this season.

The Tiger Cubs were without No. 1 golfer Eric Davis, but GHS more than made up for his absence.

Luke Crimmins led the Tiger Cubs with a medalist worthy 75 and was closely followed by Wade Huber with a 78. Freshman Jim Wheeler put together a solid round, shooting an 81, with Nick Pritchard and Jacob Collins shooting 82 and 83 respectively. Tyler Wade rounded out Greencastle scoring with a 99.

"It was a really good day for us," GHS head coach Donovan Wheeler said. "It's been nice to see Luke kind of take this role. Two of the last three events, he's led in a big way. It's nice to see him take that kind of form. It's also nice to see everybody else balance out, it's nice to see Jim play well finally and it was nice to see Wade contribute. Even Jacob and Nick both played pretty solid."

South Putnam was led by senior Tyler Newby's 83. Damon Robinson and Dillon Gilbert followed with 87, while Tyler Shoffner shot a 92. Michael Nichols shot a 104 and Tyler Cox finished the day with a 113.

Wheeler was proud of the way his team handled the adversity dealt to them early in the day. After giving up some shots on the back nine, the team poised itself, kept their heads and was patient; something that paid off at the end of the day.

"I give them credit, when they had the opportunity to charge back into it, they did. I'm really happy for them," Wheeler said.

Greencastle and South Putnam will compete at the Martinsville Golf Sectional beginning at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
