School's out for the summer! Now what?

Schools out, it's almost summer and the kids need something to do. There is plenty going on in Putnam County for kids of all ages.

The Putnam County Library has a summer reading program packed full of entertainment. There is story time, movies with popcorn and programs about bugs and artists.

The city park pool is open for business from noon-5 p.m. for open swim and from 6:30-8 p.m. for open swim daily. Family swim is slated for 5-6:30 p.m. nightly. The skate park is also open at Robe-Ann Park, Greencastle.

Ashley Square Cinema will show free family films every Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. beginning June 11 with "The Pirates Who don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie."

On June 18 they will show "Surf's Up" and on June 25 "Shrek the Third" will be one. On July 2 "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" is on followed by "The Bee Movie" on July 9. "Alvin and the Chipmunks" shows on July 16 and "The Water Horse" is on July 23. The "Spiderwick Chronicles" is on July 30 and on Aug. 6 "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who" will be shown.

McCloud Nature Park in Hendricks County offers several kid programs this summer. Preschool Playtime is an interactive club just for kid's ages 3 -- 5 years old.

Each meeting held on the first and third Friday of each month is filled with fun activities and crafts centered on a theme in nature. Meetings are in the Nature Center and start at 11 a.m.

The Nature Adventure Kids Club is for ages six to 12. It meets on the second and fourth Friday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Nature Center. This meeting is for those who enjoy getting their hands dirty, exploring wild animals up close and discovering nature.

Putnam County Playhouse offers a Youth Theatre Workshop beginning June 16 for middle and high school age kids. Students will work on versions of Shakespeare's "Hamlet."

The group will meet from 2-4 p.m. or 4-6 p.m. depending upon age daily for two weeks.

A final performance will be given on June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre.

Friends of the Park will have kids days in Bainbridge, Roachdale and Russellville this summer. These will include craft days, education days, fun days and reading days throughout the summer. To see their summer event schedule check out www.freindsoftheparkrussellville.org
