Bedford Henderson White

Bedford Henderson White, 83, of Putnam County, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 following an extended illness.

He was born in Moss, Tenn. August 8, 1924 to Irvin and Roxie (Ethridge) White.

Mr. White served in the United States Army during World War II where he earned several awards: A.P. Theatre Ribbon, Expert Rifleman, WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Ribbon.

Following his return from the military he married Buna Brady and worked as a farmer in Tennessee before moving to Indianapolis. In Indianapolis, he worked for the Indianapolis Public Transportation, now IndyGo, retiring around 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Buna, grandson Adam Blakely, granddaughter Eugenia Rhoton and son-in-law Larry Cunningham.

Survivors include his four daughters, Wanda Payne of Indianapolis, Judy Cunningham of Greenfield, Karen Williamson and husband Robert of Greencastle and Ginger Barnett and husband Roman of Reelsville; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services for Mr. White will be held at Upton Funeral Home in Celina, Tenn. Friday at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Church of Christ Cemetery in Moss, Tenn.
