SP tenants allowed more control

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

The South Putnam School Board recently approved a motion that will allow tenants on their leased property to make changes.

The Putnamville United Methodist Church is on land owned by South Putnam School Corporation. They have a chain-link fence on their property they wish to replace due to its deteriorating condition but first had to be OKed by the board. The board heard the position of Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt and voted in favor of allowing the church to replace the fence.

When asked by a member of the audience if the board had any intention on hiring a full time principal for Central Elementary after last months question regarding security.

Bernhardt said, "There are currently no plans in the works for hiring a full-time principal for Central Elementary."

Board President Mike Rissler said, "We are still looking at all of our options as far as that matter is concerned."

The board also heard Bernhardt's suggestion that the money from the license plate fund be moved to the new educational foundation that is now a 501 C3 sanctioned entity. The amount of the funds being moved was $3,202.23 and the license plate fund was closed. For a 501 C3 entity, donations are tax exempt because it is considered non-profit.

In other business:

* The PL 221 Plan for Fillmore, Central and Reelsville elementaries were approved.

* Summer maintenance is underway which is leaving some parts of the buildings in disarray as they do some deep cleaning.

* There will be no activities during the week prior to and the week of July 4 due to there being a moratorium this year.

* The board will begin looking at the budgets for next year at their next meeting in July.

The South Putnam School Board meets regularly the third Monday of every month in the Central Elementary Music Room at 7 p.m.

  • Bondsman, maybe you should reread the article.

S.P. owns the property...it is my understanding that they've owned this piece of ground for quite some time.
