Residents continue to support ex-coach

Thursday, June 26, 2008

While it has been more than two weeks since the Cloverdale School Board voted not to renew the contract of girls' basketball coach Bruce Cook and his staff, support remains for the ousted coach.

Several signs such as these (at right) have sprung up around town as some residents make it clear that their support still lies with the coach.

The next meeting of the Cloverdale School Board is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 14 in the Arthur L. Johnson Administration Center.

  • We need a packed house at the next school board meeting to show 1) support for Coach Cook 2) displeasure with the school board for the way the process was handled. The board should represent the people who elected them, therefore if the supporters far outweigh those against, there should be a re-hire that night!

  • I agree that the board made a bad decision that appears to be based on personal agendas. It was a dumb move, no doubt.

However, has anyone asked Cook if he even wants the job back? I know he cares for his players, but if I was in his shoes, I wouldn't touch a job where the board could just arbitrarily pull the same crap all over again.

  • This is such an important item. I can't believe the board wants to wait until July 14. #1 - If they do want to hire someone else it will be next to impossible to get someone at that late date. #2 - You've practically ruined the summer development for these players. If you're going to fire a coach, why in the world would you wait until June to do it? That is really, REALLY DUMB!

Besides, the program has been doing well. The girls play with class and represent the community well. What else do you want?

  • Rumoe has it that there is a girl from Cloverdale thinking or already has shown interest in going to covenant christain. Wouldn't it be something if it was the board members daughter that disliked Cook.
