Shopping center plans approved

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

The Greencastle Board of Zoning Appeals met briefly Tuesday night and approved a variance for Midland Atlantic, the company developing the old Wal-Mart shopping center.

Sears recently opened in the old Wal-Mart section and a Peebles clothing store is set to open in the same building later this summer.

Last week, the developer received city approval to develop two outlots at the front of the shopping center on Indianapolis Road, both slated to house new restaurants.

One of the restaurants is rumored to be a Sonic drive-in.

On Tuesday, the BZA approved a variance to allow the two outlots to be smaller than the required size of commercial lots in a General Business Zone.

The board approved the request unanimously.

  • Way another fast food place? It would be nice to see a good sit down steak house come to this area.

  • ALL RIGHT! Another burger joint and a place to buy more cheap Chinese crap!

Businesses move to locations where research indicates a market demand. NOT because of whom the mayor is.

I find it ironic that politicians are given a pat on the back for cutting the very red tape they create.
