Lydia (played by Marian Zennie) shares a memory with George (played by Billy Whitehouse) while her husband Frank (played by Matthew Valeriane) talks about astrology with Kate (played by Bethany Girton).

The month of July brings dramatist Arthur Miller's first successful play to the stage of the Putnam County Playhouse.

"All My Sons" will be presented July 10, 11, 12 and again July 16, 17, 18, 19. All performances are at 8 p.m. at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. Tickets are $9 each and can be reserved by calling the box office daily after 5 p.m. Fine Print Book Store and Fine Print Printing sponsor the drama.

The cast for "All My Sons," directed by Jack Randall Earles, includes Larry G. Sutton in the leading role of Joe Keller, a small town manufacturer who must face some facts about his wartime activities. Playing his wife Kate is Bethany Girton. Keith Bodnarick will play their son Chris.

The action also includes neighbors Jim and Sue Bayliss, played by Don Collins and Sandi Rossok. Longtime family friends Ann and her brother George are played by Caroline Good and Billy Whitehouse.

Rounding out the cast are Marian Zennie and Matthew Valeriane as Lydia and Frank. Elijah Brattain plays a local neighborhood boy.

Based on a true incident that playwright Miller read about, "All My Sons" is about taking responsibility for one's own actions. Many secrets are revealed as the characters discuss their tangled pasts and try to work out a future for themselves.

"All My Sons" won the Tony Award for Best Play of 1947 and many other theatrical awards. Miller later wrote such classic dramas as "Death of a Salesman" and "The Crucible."

All of the action of the play takes place in the backyard of the Keller home in August 1947. Linda Gjesvold designed the outdoor setting. Rossok and Nancy Zennie worked on the costumes.

The lighting design is by Earles and Tyson Myrick, who is also the assistant director and stage manager for "All My Sons." Jim Green will operate the soundboard, and Jessica Watson will run the lights. Assisting Myrick backstage is Alix Green.

The season continues in August with "Singin' in the Rain."

  • Stellar performance and production. MUST SEE. Even knowing the story, I was drawn into it and on the edge of my seat.
