Man who replaced mailboxes is rare

Late Sunday afternoon as I drove down our long driveway to C.R. 225S, I noticed a car pulled to the side of the road and a gentleman standing by the road. It was then I noticed my neighbors' and my mailboxes were gone.

The man said his car suddenly pulled to the right, causing him to wipe out three mailboxes. He said he had already called law enforcement. He was quite apologetic and said that he would replace the mailboxes as soon as possible.

The deputy sheriff arrived, and was very professional and dealt with the situation with a great deal of common sense.

We three neighbors thanked the man for stopping and taking responsibility for the mishap and told him we would deal with the mail and to take care of replacing the boxes when it was convenient to him.

The fact that he stopped and called law enforcement is refreshing. We lose mailboxes periodically, but never know who or what was involved.

But the most striking point is yet to be made. As I went down to the road this morning at 10 a.m. to see if I could intercept the mail man, all three boxes were already replaced with the correct addresses on each mailbox. I was told by one of our neighbors that, as he was returning home at 7:30 a.m. from having worked all night, he noticed they were already replaced.

In this day and age when so many people don't understand what taking personal responsibility means, this is a good example. My hat's off to "Robert" for his commitment to doing what's right.
