Pierce seeking seat on County Council

Dale Pierce, D-Greencastle, has announced his candidacy for the Putnam County Council.

"Sooner or later the short-term fixes the county has been using to handle infrastucture problems like our roads and bridges are going to wear out," Pierce said. "We need to develop an effective long-range plan and hold County officials responsible for staying within their budgets and keeping their promises. These and other issues have compelled me to run for a seat on the Putnam County Council."

Pierce, a 32-year IBM veteran who also spent 17 years on the Greencastle School Board, says he would like to see to Greencastle be more involved in county politics.

"We need to close the gap between the city and the county," he said.

Another area of focus will be working to make Putnam County attractive to new business.

Pierce believes it is important to plan for future expansion, but also to be careful about the kinds of businesses to include, and "looking for the right fit."

Pierce is married with three grown children, an elder in the Church of Christ in Madison township which he has attended for 45 years, a veteran, and taught building trades for seven years at Area 30 after his retirement.

Pierce looks forward to serving Putnam County on the Council.
