Blast from the Past moved

Friends of the Park have rescheduled Blast from the Past for August 2 at the Bainbridge Community Center. Torrential rains and flooding, along with wind damage hampered the event in early June.

"We've been working hard to reschedule this event. We didn't want to just cancel it. There are plenty of things for everyone," said Friends of the Park President Dianna Gorrell.

Events for the day include a car show, food, games, music and fireworks. D.J. Cameron Goss will provide entertainment.

Car show registration will take place from noon to 4 p.m. with the show from 4-8 p.m. Autos from 1900 to 1980 are welcome to participate. Registration is $10.

Winners will receive plaques designed by kids in the Friends of the Park summer program and made by John Rose.

A 50/50 drawing will take place at 8 p.m. and door prizes will be given away every 15 minutes from 4-8 p.m. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.

Friends of the Park will have the food booth in full swing from noon until after the fireworks start at dusk. Serving from a charcoal & wood grill there will be hamburgers, hotdogs, pork loins and pork chops, along with desserts and drinks. All funds from the food booth help to keep the summer events and programs for all three parks going. So bring an appetite.

New this year is an Old Fashioned Carnival that includes a bounce house, duck pond, water bottle ring toss, balloon darts, and footballs toss and lots of other games. Tickets are $1 each or you can buy an armband for the day for $5.

There will be fun contests starting at 4 pm west of the community building in the grass. These include a tug of war, hula-hoop contest, egg race, fan belt toss, tire race, sack race, and wheelbarrow race, bubble gum/whip cream contest.

Hope's Way has been asked back weather and heat permitting with stagecoach and pony Rides for $1 each with the money going to Hope's Way.

Stop by the Friends of the Park booth and get the children a festival balloon. The Friends of the Park cookbook will also be for sale at the food tent for $5 with the proceeds going to continue or summer fun in the sun programs and events.

Evening will end with old-fashioned country fireworks (class C) at Dusk.

Vendors are needed for the event. Those who paid for the June event are welcome back at no additional charge. Anyone else wanting to set up a booth can do so for a free will offering. Garage sale booths will be set up apart from the arts and crafts vendors. Set up is on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Call Dianna Gorrell at 765-435-2813 for booth information.

Money raised from all summer events and the food booth help with the "Summer Fun in the Sun" programs. These programs are free to all children no matter where they live. Kids and adults from Putnam, Hendricks, Parke and Montgomery counties attend the program.

"There will be lots of free fun for the entire family so come to Bainbridge, the small town with a big heart, and visit with some country folks and help raise money to keep the kids programs going," said Gorrell.
