Clodfelter running for commissioner

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

For 26 years, Gene Clodfelter served on the Putnam County Council and as a County Commissioner, reviewing, approving and monitoring county budgets and creating many initial county planning and zoning laws, as well as improvements in public works projects, county hazardous waste disposal and bridge repair and replacement.

He is now announcing his candidacy in a bid to return to the Putnam County Commissioners.

Clodfelter believes that the county needs to "Not focus on playing politics. We need bi-partisan, non-political management of the county. Roads are important, but there are many other issues to address including social services like the Humane Society," he said.

Clodfelter pledges to work together with the other commissioners to listen to county residents and provide the kind of management the county deserves.

A farmer since 1961 and an Elder in the Russellville Community Church, Clodfelter has also worked in insurance and real-estate sales and as the owner-operator of the Roachdale Elevator. He has served on the boards of the Soil and Water Conservation District, Greencastle Savings and Loan-Old National Bank and Cummins Mental Health Systems (where he served as Chairman for two terms). Clodfelter has also worked privately and commercially procuring land for gas and oil exploration.

Clodfelter has a unique understanding and perspective on how far Putnam County has come, and how we need to address new problems and opportunities now and in the future.
