CLAYTON -- The Greencastle girls' golf team placed third at Deer Creek Thursday in a match with Brownsburg and home team Cascade.

The Cadets won with a 218, the Bulldogs were second a 224, and the Tiger Cubs had a 229.

While GHS scored five strokes better at Deer Creek than it did last week, Coach Brad Kingma was hoping for more improvement at this young point in the season.

"We shot a 234 on the same nine at Deer Creek a week and half ago and were hoping to have a bigger improvement than five strokes," the coach said. "Individually, we didn't have many good scores tonight."

Chelsea Samuels led GHS with a 53, followed by freshman Katie Hedge's 57. Kristen Hutcheson was next with a 59. Diane Wokoun closed out the scoring with a 60, while Kay Wood added a 64.

Hutcheson was the pleasant surprise for Kingma and the Cubs, as she improved greatly from her last performance at the course.

"Kristen was the bright spot as she shot 12 strokes better here than last week and is getting more comfortable with some swing changes we made," Kingma said.
