Greencastle still looking for first win

Thursday, August 28, 2008

SULLIVAN -- Wednesday proved to be a rough night for the Greencastle girls' volleyball team. The Tiger Cubs lost to Sullivan 25-9, 25-4 and 25-14, falling to 0-4 on the season.

"It's just so frustrating, we make some headway, we start doing some things better, then we regress. It's just a matter of becoming more consistent," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said.

Braden Amis provided some solid minutes for GHS. Amis recorded four kills, six blocks and was seven-for-seven serving with three points and two aces. Mallory Miller added eight assists and one kill.

In addition, Brooke Lewis and Jesse Bennett contributed three kills each and Kayla Nobles added two.

A bright spot for Greencastle was their serving ability on the night. The team was 27-of-28 on serves, which pleased Lowe.

"We're doing some good things, I think the other team did a good job hitting and serving," Lowe said. "We had some trouble on serve receive, but we made some progress in that area. I think we did a much better job tonight mixing up our attack. We're just young and we're going to have to keep putting one foot in front of the other. You can't run until you walk."

The Greencastle junior varsity also struggled with the Golden Arrows, falling in two games 25-16 and 25-17.

Greencastle will travel to Speedway at 10 a.m. Saturday.
