DANVILLE -- The Greencastle girls' cross country team led the Putnam County effort with a fifth-place finish at Saturday's Danville Hokum Karem. The Lady Tiger Cubs totaled 60 points.

South Putnam was next in the county, finishing 11th with 97, while North Putnam's team was incomplete.

On the boys' side, the Tiger Cubs were tops in the county with a 10th-place finish and a total of 100 points. South Putnam was just behind in 11th with 102. North Putnam's boys had an incomplete team.

"I was very pleased with our results from the meet. I felt the competition was good with Hamilton Southeastern and Edgewood being ranked in the top 25 in the State and Plainfield is always a toughie," GHS coach Garry Anderson said.

"Finishing in the top five was exciting for our girls and well deserved," he added. "Our younger runners performed well. They responded in a very competitive manner through out the races."

Kaitlyn Murtagh and Sara Culler led the way for GHS, with a 15th-place finish in a time of 41:14. Jasmine Dwiggans and Emily Gill were next in 21st. Ivonne Martinez and Felicia Barger placed 27th. Brittany Johnson and Olivia Humphreys placed 44th for GHS.

Anderson was especially pleased with the effort from some of his new runners.

"I got a chance to see Freshman Emily Gill stride out in a manner that will make her better and better with experience. Jasmine Dwiggans raced hard and looked good running with the big girls. Olivia Humphreys and Felicia Barger looked good attacking the hill on the last part of the course -- that was very encouraging" Anderson said. "Overall, I think we got good races from all the girls considering our practice the day before the meet. It was nice to see them race with this many girls in the meet also.

For South Putnam, Lauren Haynes and Amanda Lund led the effort with a 16th-place finish. Megan Barnes and Madi Marsteller placed 40th. Robbie Urton and Brittany Fitzpatrick placed 47th, followed by Mikayla Cherry and Brittany Cox in 48th.

For the Cougars, the team of Stevenson and Robinson led the way with a 34th-place finish. Salyers and Parent placed 50th.

On the boys' side, Greencastle's Ben Wilson and Jordan Lewis were top finishers, placing 16th in a time of 33:12.4. Kyle Harlan and Ryan Gillespie were next for the Cubs in 31st. Ryan Stevens and Nathan Eubank rounded out the GHS effort in 58th.

The Cougars' only team of Kenny Quisenberry and Kasey McLaughlin was 27th.

The Eagles' Paul Rubino and Dylan Hayes finished in 33rd, followed closely by teammates Andrew Northrup and Tanner Barr. Jacob Parker and Josh Olczak placed 39th and were trailed by Tyler Heavin and Wadim Haslik in 40th. Tim Toland and Andrew Kelly finished 45th.
