Author signing book at Heritage Lake

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Author James Alexander Thom will discuss his book, "Follow the River," at the Heritage Lake Clubhouse on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

Thom, an Indiana resident, is nationally known for his historical novels of early America. His novels include "Long Knife," "From Sea to Shining Sea," "The Children of First Man," "The Red Heart," "Sign Talker," "Saint Patrick's Battalion" and "Panther in the Sky," for which he won the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Historical Novel.

In preparation for the writing of "Follow the River," Thom traveled much of the New River Gorge and researched the life of Mary Ingles, the subject of the novel, focusing on her capture in 1755 and her escape to return to her people.

Thom and his wife, Dark Rain of the Shawnee Nation, United Remnant Band, co-authored the novel "Warrior Woman." Dark Rain will also be at the Sept. 10 event at Heritage Lake. Many of the couple's books will be available for purchase and signing after the discussion.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Heritage Lake Book Club, Neighborhood Activities Committee and Heritage Lake Community Services. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
