Clovers stay strong after county victory

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale girls' volleyball team carried the momentum of winning the county championship over the weekend into their Monday matchup with Danville. The Clovers won in three game 25-19, 25-15 and 25-16.

"Tonight we played well," Clover head coach Kathy Moore said. "Our passing was more consistent and we had some good net play.

Kristin McCammon led the Clovers in scoring with eight points, followed by Kayla Shepherd and Allie Franklin with seven. Kaileigh Sparks had six points, Maria Skiles five and Elizabeth Cheatham added four.

McCammon also led the team in digs with 29 and Shepherd added 18. Shepherd added three aces, with McCammon and Skiles contributing two each and Sparks one.

Cloverdale had a dominant night at the net with Alesha Evans and Cheatham combining for 18 blocks. Whitney Bond had five and McCammon added three.

"We did a better job of blocking tonight which has been something we have been working on," Moore said.

The junior varsity lost their contest with the Warriors 14-25, 25-20 and 10-15.

Up next for Cloverdale will be Shakamak at 5:30 p.m. today.
