Women's soccer

Three different Tigers scored in leading DePauw to a 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Oglethorpe. DePauw improved to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC, while the Stormy Petrels dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Katy Phillips put the Tigers on the board at 19:48 with an unassisted goal before Sarah McCord followed it up at 36:42 on Lindsay Lund's assist. Lauren Hannan rounded out the scoring at 68:22 with an assist from Phillips.

DePauw outshot Oglethorpe 11-5 and held a 7-0 edge in corners.Three Tigers played in goal with Brooke Shipley, Lauren Palfrey and Christy Fillenwarth assisting with DePauw's second shutout of the season.

On Friday, Sewanee's Layne Ezzell scored on Faith Spencer's assist just 25 seconds into the first overtime and claimed a 2-1 victory over DePauw in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Evey Gannaway put Sewanee on the board at 48:53 on Lizzie Butler's assist before DePauw's Julie Drummond knotted the score at 62:20 on an assist from Bridget Coleman.

Sewanee outshot the Tigers, 11-6, and held a 5-1 edge in corners. DePauw's Brooke Shipley recorded eight saves, while Virginia Zakas totaled six for Sewanee.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, September 27, when they travel to the University of Chicago for a 6 p.m. CDT contest with the Maroons.

Women's golf

NORMAL, Ill. -- DePauw shot a second-round 313 and totaled a 643 while finishing seventh at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic at the Ironwood Golf Course. Wisconsin-Stevens Point shot a 608 and won the tournament.

Natalie Gough shot a 159 and tied for 19th, while Taylor Beaty tied for 26th with a 161. Meagan Hayes followed with a 162 which tied for 31st and Nikki Garza shot a 163 and tied for 35th. Annie Mail rounded out DePauw's lineup with a 169 which tied for 53rd.

Michelle Pascavis of Wisconsin-Stevens Point was the medalist after shooting a 146.

The Tigers host the DePauw Small College Classic on September 27-28 at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton.

Men's soccer

DePauw and Oglethorpe competed in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest Sunday at Boswell Field and battled to a 1-1 tie.

The Tigers are now 3-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the SCAC, while the Stormy Petrels are 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

Michael Muller put Oglethorpe on the board at 15:30 on a header before DePauw's Salvatore Greco scored from the top of the box on Brian Lawless' assist at 82:45.

Late in the second overtime Adam Davis nearly gave the Tigers the victory, but his shot rolled off the left post.

Oglethorpe outshot DePauw 17-12 and DePauw held a 5-4 advantage in corners. DePauw's Ted Jaboci recorded four saves in goal, while the Stormy Petrels' Michael Hadjisimos posted one.

DePauw's three ties this season are already a school record.

On Friday, Adam Davis delivered a penalty kick with 5:45 left in the second overtime and lifted the Tigers to a 1-0 win over visiting Sewanee in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

DePauw outshot Sewanee 11-6, while Sewanee held a 7-6 edge in corners. DePauw's Ted Jacobi recorded five saves in the shutout, while Matt Hale saved 10 shots in defeat.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, September 27, when they travel to Franklin for an 11 a.m. contest.

Field hockey

DePauw improved to 5-1 for its best start since 2001 and moved to 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 5-1 win over visiting Hendrix. The Warriors dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Sarah Riffle and Beth Seegers each scored two goals, while Kimberly Trainor added the other. Meredith Ellis, Carolyn Mueller, Luis Myavec and Lizzy Funk each had one assist in the win. Hendrix's lone goal came with less than one minute left off the stick of Katie Schaiff with Savannah Saunders adding the assist.

DePauw outshot Hendrix 21-43 and held a 7-3 edge in corners.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, September 27, when they host Centre at 11 a.m.

On Friday, host Lidenwood took a 1-0 lead just 14 seconds into the contest, but DePauw scored two goals in each half and took a 4-1 win.

Katie Sowar and Luisa Myavec scored in the first half, while Sarah Riffle and Morgan Busam added second-half scores.

Volleyball

After defeating North Central in three sets on Saturday, the Tigers lost to Heidelberg, 3-0, in the DePauw Invitational championship match.

No further details were available at press time.

On Friday, DePauw opened tournament play with wins over Anderson and St. Mary's. The Tigers topped Anderson 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) before defeating St. Mary's 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21).

In the Anderson match, Adrienne Cobb and Katey Larson each totaled nine kills, while Larson and Kristen Chynoweth each finished with six blocks. Ali Smith led with 30 assists and Emily Smith paced the squad with 21 digs. Loren Sloan totaled three aces in the win.

Emily Smith led DePauw with 33 digs against St. Mary's, while Cobb paced the team with 18 kills and Larson finished with 14. Erin Cunningham totaled five blocks and Ali Smith led with 57 assists.

The Tigers conclude pool play on Saturday when they face North Central at Noon.

Men's cross country

Bloomington -- DePauw totaled 293 points and finished 11th among 21 schools at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Friday. The Tigers were sixth among the non-Division I schools. Indiana University won with 33 points, while Indiana State was second with 50.

Zack Weinberg paced the Tigers with a 39th place showing as he covered the 8K course in 26:51. Nate Ellis finished 42nd in 26:55 followed by Steve Clark in 57th in 27:15 and Pete Richard in 64th in 27:26.

Joe Evans placed 93rd in 28:12, Nick Pucillo was 94th in 28:13 and Eric Hawley was 103rd in 28:27. Indiana's Brennon Plotner won in 25:03.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, September 27, when it competes in the Otterbein Invitational at Westerville, Ohio.

Women's cross country

Bloomington -- The seventh-ranked Tigers totaled 201 points and finished sixth among the 21 schools at the Indiana Intercollegiates. DePauw was second among the non-Division I schools.

Purdue won with 45 points, followed by Indiana 57, Ball State 106, Indiana State 109 and Southern Indiana 201.

Lauren Reich finished 21st while covering the 5K course in 19:16 and Alison Case was 24th in 19:17. Ellen Mail finished 46th in 20:02, while Bridget Blair was 56th in 20:25.

Julie Southworth finished 63rd in 20:40, Melissa Buckley placed 67th in 20:44 and Leah Seigel was 73rd in 20:50. Indiana Tech's Alissa McKaig won in 17:47.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, September 27, at the Otterbein Invitational in Westerville, Ohio.
