North falls to Mounties in three

Saturday, October 11, 2008

The North Putnam volleyball squad fell to Southmont Thursday night in three games. The Cougars lost 21-25, 17-25 and 17-25.

"The girls played well," Cougar head coach Jill Schreiber said. "We started out strong and then lost our momentum. Southmont was a good team and we gave them a good match."

Taylor Alles led North Putnam with seven kills, one assist and seven blocks, while Carlye McGaughey had five kills and two assists. Logan Doyle added three kills, two assists and one ace, with Megan Gray adding nine assists and one ace.

Schreiber acknowledged that the team improved on its passing, but still could use some improvement. North Putnam mixed up their lineup a little, giving some girls more playing time than usual and possibly help send the Cougars in the right direction.

"We had some new faces on the court last night and they stepped up to help the team," Schreiber said. "We are getting the girls in the spots that are going to benefit the team. The girls know their roles on the team and know they have to execute those specific roles.

The Cougars will compete at the Cascade Tournament at 10:15 against Clay City.
