SPRAGG

Author Mark Spragg will be at the Putnam County Public Library on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Currently working on his 4th book at his home in Cody, Wyoming, Spragg accepted an invitation to visit Putnam County, one of only two visits he will make the entire year.

"Before I was able to support myself through my writing, I taught high school, built fences, wrangled horses, guided in the Rocky Mountains, worked on oil rigs, and shod horses to make a living," Spragg said. "I found that while I prefer writing, I see all work as pretty much the same, and approach it with the same ethic -- come early, stay late, and focus on the details. When I'm working on the first draft of a book I'm almost a complete recluse."

Spragg's "An Unfinished Life" was chosen as the first Putnam County READS "One Book, One Community" selection. Since April, community-wide discussions have been held each month throughout the county and will conclude with Spragg's visit.

A reception and book signing will follow Spragg's talk and reading. Books will be available to purchase on-site through Fine Print Book Store.

A strong supporter of programs like PC READS, which draw communities together through the shared experience of reading and discussing a single book, Spragg is also a staunch supporter of public libraries and is greatly honored that Putnam County chose his book.

In addition to "An Unfinished Life," Mark Spragg is the author of "Where Rivers Change Direction," a memoir that won the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Award, and "The Fruit of Stone," a novel. All three were top 10 Book Sense selections and have been translated into 15 languages.

Spragg and his wife, Virginia, also wrote the screenplay for "An Unfinished Life." The film was released by Miramax in 2005.

The PC READS Project is sponsored by the Putnam County Public Library, with support from the Friends of the Library.
