Tiger Cubs win easy over Bulldogs

MONROVIA -- The Greencastle girls' soccer team shared the wealth last Thursday night, as five different Lady Tiger Cubs scored in a 9-0 victory over Monrovia.

The first half was dominated by GHS and especially senior Hannah Spencer, who had four goals before the break.

Spencer's first two came on penalty kicks after hand balls by Monrovia.

At the 20:53 mark, Whitney Brotherton got into the act, taking a Spencer assist and making the score 3-0.

Spencer added two more goals late in the half, taking an assist from Kate Babington at 2:37 and then scoring on a breakaway with 2:05 remaining.

After the play, Spencer was limping and came out of the game. Substitute Taylor Neumann didn't miss a beat, scoring the half's final goal off an assist from Katie Farris with 0:51 to play.

Greencastle changed things up in the second half.

"The second half started with a different look. We gave the ladies that don't get a lot of playing time to play," GHS coach Maurice McKee said. "Taylor Neumann and MacKenzie Meyer started up front then Jessie Brown and Ashley Smith took the outside mid sections followed by Rachel Winters and Melanie Bittles in the back. We moved Hannah Deer to the center mid area. The girls played well in their places."

Deer took advantage of the different position, scoring goals from about 18 to 20 yards out at the 36:05 and 32:40 marks.

Babington brought the game to its final margin with a goal with 4:53 to play.

Keeper Jennifer Grumme finished with six saves.

"Overall the team played well together for their final regular scheduled game, Monrovia is a young team that is developing with a lot of speed up front," McKee said.
