Cloverdale PD updates system
The Cloverdale police department will be "going live with new 800-megahertz radios Nov. 1," Councilman Terry Puffer told his fellow council members Tuesday night.
The police department currently has five radios and is need of three more. The radios cost $3,000 each.
It is a matter of public safety for the department to have the 800-megahertz radios. They are equipped with a panic button, which allows an officer to push and essentially have the full attention of the county.
"All action in the county will stop and provide the officer with help," said Puffer. "It is a superior system."
The department is also tentatively set to use a new computer system, Record Management System, by Jan. RMS will allow all law enforcement agencies to access reports.
"If someone commits an offense in Cloverdale and the same offense in Greencastle, the connection may or may not be made," said Puffer.
Patrol officers will also be equipped with new laptops in their cars. These computers will let the officers run driver checks, criminal background checks and other functions from their squad cars. This will eliminate the need for broadcasting information over the radios to dispatch.
A request by the Redevelopment Committee was approved for repaving Stardust Road from the entrances of Stardust Hills to the new arena.
President of the Redevelopment Committee, Don Gedert, said, "The funding will come from Tax Increment Financing (TIF tax), which is a special program."
TIF money comes from property tax revenue and is credited to the redevelopment district rather than the traditional taxing units such as schools, civil city, and county, said the www.in.gov/indot Web site.
The revenue can be used for projects such as repaving roads, infrastructure or other improvements.
The paving should be done by the first of November.
