Delta Tau Delta suspends chapter at Wabash College
Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity has directed the Beta Psi Chapter at Wabash College to suspend chapter operations. During this suspension period, the men should refrain from all formal chapter activities.
That would include a cessation of all chapter social events.
Additionally, there is to be no new member education or Ritual activities involving the current new member class.
The headquarters staff of Delta Tau Delta continues to work in partnership with the administration at Wabash College in the aftermath of the Oct. 5 death of Johnny D. Smith. Mr. Smith was a freshman at the college from Tucson, Ariz., and was a new member of the Fraternity.
Jim Russell, executive vice president of Delta Tau Delta, said the suspension period is indefinite.
"There are ongoing investigations by the Fraternity, the Wabash College administration and civil authorities," Russell said. "At the same time, the primary focus of these students is their academic responsibility. Our desire is for the students to focus their attention on academics and pay close heed to their physical and mental health during these difficult times."
Russell, who met with the students Thursday afternoon at the chapter house, encouraged their continued cooperation in the investigations.
