Women's soccer splits weekend matches

Sherman, Texas -- Austin scored an early second-half goal and held on for a 1-0 SCAC win over DePauw in women's soccer.

The Tigers are 5-7-2 overall and 3-3 in SCAC play, while Austin improved to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Austin's Shelley Casey scored the game's lone goal at 50:11 on an assist from Helen Heres.

Both teams totaled 16 shots with DePauw holding a 4-2 edge in corners. DePauw's Lauren Palfrey finsihed wih nine saves and Kaitlin Elledge totaled six for the Kangaroos.

On Friday, DePauw shut out the University of Dallas 3-0. The Crusaders dropped to 0-11-1 with the loss.

Stephanie Patton put the Tigers on the board just 2:26 into the contest before Sarah MacGregor made it 2-0 at 36:29. DePauw's third goal came on an own goal at 75:14.

DePauw outshot Dallas 21-0 and held a 6-1 advantage in corners. Lauren Palfrey and Christy Fillenwarth shared time in goal for the Tigers, while Dallas' Jennifer Sippel recorded eight saves.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday at Centre.
