Tax bills in the mail

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Ready or not, here they come.

Janet Deaton, Putnam County treasurer, has announced all property tax statements have been mailed.

The first installment is due Nov. 21 with the second installment due Jan. 23, 2009.

Payments may be made at any of the following bank branches: Tri County Bank, First National Bank, Old National Bank or at North Salem State Bank. To pay at a bank, statements must be taken and not delinquent.

Tax payments will also be received at the treasurer's office located on the second floor of the courthouse or by mail to: P.O. Box 508, Greencastle, IN 46135. If making payment by mail, they should be postmarked on or before Nov. 21 to avoid a 10 percent late charge. A receipt will be mailed, if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is included.

If a tax statement is not received, call the treasurer's office at 653-4510. Deaton says, a failure to receive a statement will not relieve anyone of taxes and/or penalties that may be due.
