Tiger swimmers open season with a pair of weekend meets

Women open 2-1

DePauw women's swimming improved to 2-1 on the season following a 144-134 win over visiting Washington University at the Erdmann Natatorium Sunday.

Catie Baker was a triple-winner in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.27, the 200 breast in 2:30.87 and the 200 individual medley. Amanda Stier won the 200 butterfly in 2:10.40 and the 100 butterfly in 59.77 seconds.

Shvawn Christensen led the Tigers' sweep of one-meter diving competition after winning with 153.8 points. DePauw's 200 medley relay opened the meet with a first-place finish in 1:50.95.

On Saturday, DePauw opened the season with a split in Louisville, as it defeated Washington & Lee, 166-112, and lost to Centre, 142-138.

Baker posted a pair of wins in her first collegiate meet including an NCAA provisional time of 2:26.56 in the 200-yard breaststroke. She won the 100 breast in 1:07.87.

Stier took a first in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.35, while Catie King won the one-meter diving competition with 151.57 points. The Tigers' 200 medley relay was victorious in 1:50.51.

The Tigers host Wittenberg on November 8 at 3 p.m.

Men sitting at 1-2

The Tiger men dropped to 1-2 on the season and their dual meet win home streak ended at 24 in a 179-115 loss to Washington University Sunday.

John Cook was a double-winner in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.65 seconds and the 100 free in 46.94.

On Saturday, they opened the season with a split as it defeated Centre by a 195-104 score, but lost to Washington & Lee, 155-139.

Dan DeGeus won both the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.47 and the 200 breast in 2:15.92, while Cook took first in the 100 freestyle in 46.51 seconds.

DePauw's 200-yard medley relay of Steve Klabak, Josh Baugh, Brogan Runion and Cook won in 1:37.41 as did the 400 free relay of John Montgomery, Kyle Kerrigan, Klabak and Cook in 3:12.60.
