Warrant issued for New Mexico woman

Monday, November 10, 2008

A bench warrant has been issued for a New Mexico woman who failed to appear for a sentencing hearing Thursday to face multiple drug-related felony charges.

Elizabeth Talamantes, 25, of Albuquerque is charged with Class C felony conspiracy to commit dealing in marijuana over 10 pounds and possession of marijuana, identity deception and neglect of a dependent, all Class D felonies. She was slated to appear in Putnam County Circuit Court Thursday at 11 a.m.

Talamantes was arrested March 17 when officers found more than 40 pounds of marijuana hidden in the spare tire of a Jeep she was driving on I-70 eastbound.

As events unfolded, Talamantes claimed to be two other people, producing identification for one of them. She also admitted to officers that she was carrying pot in the spare tire, court documents said.

Talamantes told officers she lied about her identity because she was in the country illegally and did not want to lose her child.

On March 18, Talamantes' bond was set at $30,000 cash only. Her bond was reduced to $30,000 with 10 percent allowed on April 10. Talamantes posted bond and was allowed to return to New Mexico after signing a waiver of extradition.

Talamantes' attorney asked for a continuance for a May 15 pre-trial conference, which was denied. Talamantes was excused from attending that conference.

A change of plea and sentencing hearing was set for Oct. 23. Talamantes failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. Talamantes' attorney, Jeffrey Boggess, filed to have his client's warrant recalled. That request was granted on Oct. 24, and a new sentencing date of Nov. 6 was set.

  • it's just some weed. they let her out because they knew she would leave and they would not have to worry about paying 30 thousand for a trial. if it were meth or crack or cocaine...she would still be sitting in jail.

Ok,I'll start... whatever happened to that dope dealer that was recorded by a wire on an informant, had a load of dope and while cops were draggin the feet gettin a warrant,he drove off into the sunset? What ever happened to the teacher that blew...er alledgedly blew his top while giving the class on anger management and wresteled w/a student?Whatever happened to the winner Mother in Cloverdale that was spooning drugs into her children and thought it was so cute/funny that her arrest mugshot had her beaming? Just a few stories I either mised the follow up or there was none..Anyone else have a story that seems to have never reappeared?

  • Soldier in Iraq: The Banner Graphic has censored my posts before...they have even deleted an identity. Small town attitude...if an opinion doesn't agree with "theirs" just remove it.

I'm counting how long it will take for this one to be noticed and removed.

  • Why do you say I'm on here everyday? Do you work for the Banner? I'm not on here everyday. And I'm not on here everyday because it is so sad. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Wow, I just asked when they would be folding. Such mean and nasty people on here.

  • ExHoosier, graydog and GreencastlesFinest, I could not agree with you more. I am also consonant of the fact that either the paper or some totally disconnected from society, out of touch, never left Putnam County narrowed minded, uneducated goober can flame my postings. The one I posted as to this article was neither rude nor offensive to anyone, I was just stating the obvious as to the ineptness of the PC Court systems and Judging involved in this and past cases presented before it. I cannot wait to return and argue my case as to the legality (lack thereof) of the 10th amendment concerning Social Security and see how they respond to that.

You know, for a small town newspaper, I did expect more, is this not where America's voice is heard in her small towns? This media is my link to information on the home front, it is too bad the paper has taken the views it has and it's cencsorshiping of that of its residents, no matter how far they are from home.

Let us see how long the BG or the small minded ones allows this post to remain up.

And what is the Gossip Central spoken about? Please post links if possible!!
