Greencastle swimmers fall at Bloomington North

BLOOMINGTON -- The Greencastle boys' and girls' swim team traveled south to face Bloomington North Tuesday. The outcomes were almost equal for both GHS squads with the boys' dropping their contest 103-80 and the girls' losing 104-81.

Both teams won six events on the night, including four of the same events.

For the boys', Luke Crimmins led the way with two individual wins and was part of two winning relays. Crimmins won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.98 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.75. Nick Stevens also captured two individual events, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.33 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.42. Crimmins and Stevens teamed up with Jessie Elkins and Jay Guffey to take the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:31.12.

The boys also picked up a win in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Crimmins, Ryan Payne, Elkins and Luke Smith winning in a time of 1:45.98

Erika Collins won two individual races for the girls. She won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:07.51 and the 500-yard freestyle with the 5:49.28. Kelsey Murtagh won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:02.41, while Caitlin Gannaway took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 1:20.28

Lainey Poor finished in first place in the diving event. She had a dive total of 139.30 to win the event.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Murtagh, Gannaway, Collins and Natasha Aring paced the field with a time of 2:02.08.

The Tiger Cubs will host Southmont at 6 p.m. tonight.

  • Woot.....thanks for the piece on these fantastic girls. They did win 5 of the eleven events.....Bloomington had too much depth tho for them to get closer. But then Bloomington has a lot more students than we do. It is amazing our kids do so well against some of these huge schools. It certainly speaks to their tremendous efforts and achievement.

    Southmont will find themselves a victim of a shark attack tonight!!!
