South struggles to 56-20 loss

Saturday, December 20, 2008

SPEEDWAY -- The South Putnam Lady Eagles ran into a virtual buzzsaw in the Sparkplugs of Speedway, losing 56-20 Friday night.

The Lady Eagles were never really in the game, trailing 0-9 first quarter; 4-22 at halftime, 9-38 to end third quarter and the final 20-56.

The score did not reflect the South Putnam effort completely as they were victims of their own poor shooting, albeit the host defense was really a harrassing contributor.

The hostesses were playing defense very well and scoring almost at will through most of the first three periods.

South Putnam senior Oceaia Boetjer led the Eagles with 12 points, followed by sister Brooke with six.

Leeah Butts was the only other Eagle on the board with two points.

South Putnam (3-6) hosts Shakamak in the opener of the South Putnam Tournament at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 3.
