With over 6,500 square feet of room for shoes, Greencastle's newest store Shoe Sensation is Mecca for those who love to shoe shop. There are bargains galore and brands that include Nike, Reebok, New Balance, Clarks, SAS, Sketchers and DC.

But shoes are not the only items the savvy shopper can find. When an independent group purchased the chain last February, they decided Shoe Sensation should be a "shoes only" store.

Shoe Sensation opened over Halloween weekend and has seen much success so far.

"Business has been good. The grand opening was spectacular. We had results better than we hoped for," said Store Manager Brandy Hourihan.

The shoe store offers great customer service and will measure feet to ensure shoes are the right size. They also offered lay away for Christmas.

"Lots of people took advantage of the lay away. It helps people during this season to be able to use it," added Hourihan.

Currently the chain offers clothing items similar to those available at TJ Maxx--lots of close out items for men, women and kids. The other Shoe Sensation stores in the area are eliminating the clothing lines they carry. The Greencastle store will be the clothing consolidation spot for all those stores until this spring.

"People can definitely get some good bargains on name brands, especially since this store will get the clothing items from all the others. Right now, clothing is 20 percent off and it will keep dropping until the end of March," said Hourihan.

The store always has clearance shoes at 60 percent off. The after-Christmas prices have already begun as well, with items in the store already discounted.

"We have lots of boots. They just went on sale last week and are $10 to $20 off," said Hourihan.

Shoe Sensation is a regional chain of family shoe stores selling quality name-brand shoes. The stores carry a large selection of athletic footwear in a better-branded merchandise mix.

Each store is staffed with local management in order to customize merchandise to the local market. Hourihan lives with her family between Bainbridge and Heritage Lake and her daughter Haley attends North Putnam schools.

The six other employees of the store also live in the area. Located in Putnam Plaza, the store is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Headquartered in Jefferson, Ind., the company has a total of 600 employees and revenues of $31.5 million. Information about the company can be found at www.shoesensation.com.
