Santa comes calling and surprises Greencastle girl
Yes, Megan, there is a Santa Claus.
Several weeks ago, 8-year-old Megan Manning sent St. Nick a letter through the mailbox located in downtown Greencastle. In the letter, Megan expressed her concern that, because she would be going out of town for Christmas, Santa might not be able to find her.
On Sunday night, a speechless Megan answered a knock at her door and found the jolly old elf himself standing on her porch.
"Ho, ho, ho!" Santa bellowed, handing Megan packages from a red wagon. "I knew I had to come make sure you got these. I wouldn't have missed this for the world."
A giggling Megan could hardly contain her excitement as she accepted the gifts from Santa, who came into her family's living room to visit for a bit before he had to get back to his pre-Christmas work.
The Deer Meadow Elementary second-grader presented Santa with cookies and milk before tearing into her holiday booty as her mother and stepfather, Kristin and Ivan McCammack, and her stepgrandparents, Nancy and Richard McCammack, looked on. A thrilled Megan received a variety of gifts, including dolls, jewelry, perfume and sparkly pink clothes.
Megan said she expected Santa would come early to deliver her gifts, but she figured he would show up after she had gone to sleep.
"We knew he was going to come tonight, we just didn't know we were actually going to see him," Kristin said with a wide smile.
Megan and her family left today to spend Christmas with Kristin's parents in Plymouth.
