Decorating contest winners named

The home of Marty, Chris and Shelly Williamson on Brick Chapel Road is the winner of the 2008 Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Home for the Holidays lawn decorating contest.

Christmas trees, angels, manger scenes, music and, of course, Santa Claus are all part of the annual Home for the Holidays home lawn decorating contest sponsored by the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce.

There were 10 entries in this year's race. Capturing first place are Marty, Chris and Shelly Williamson on Brick Chapel Road (W. C.R. 350 N) just off S.R. 231 North. Featuring small scenes that include bears around a campfire, Santa and his sleigh on the rooftop, carolers, Charlie Brown and Snoopy, a church and manger scene, snowmen, penguins, lots of deer and even a lighted bridge surrounded by candy canes.

The family will receive a $100 gift certificate from Wal-Mart.

Second place winner is Randy Winters, who will receive a $50 Wal-Mart gift certificate. Located at 5690 W. C.R. 100 S outside Greencastle, this display features large lighted Christmas trees and lots of them. There is a real sleigh and an antique tractor and wagon all light up with hundreds of lights.

The Winters' home is exactly five miles from Jackson Street on West Walnut. It is located on the south side of the road across from Pingleton's Saw Mill.

Coming in at third place in the contest is Ron Rose at 512 Ritter Drive just one block from TZ. It's easy to spot the Rose home as Ron is usually outside playing Santa Claus. There is an obvious theme of the South Pole with igloos and penguins. Make sure you check out the skiing bear on the rooftop. He receives a $25 gift certificate from Wal-Mart.

"The scores from the judges were all really close. It was a tough contest to judge this year," said Chamber Executive Director Tammy Amor.

Paul, Tina and Taylor Dixson in Bainbridge and Justin, Nathan, Ron and Kim Eubank received honorable mention.

The Dixson home is located in Bainbridge at 810 E. U.S. 36. Eubanks home is located at 228 Hillsdale Ave in Greencastle just west of the old hospital and south of Shadowlawn Ave.

"These houses are beautiful and worth adding to your list of Christmas lights to see this season," added Amor.
