Teams compete at the South Putnam Eagle Relays

As the holiday season comes to a close for another year, the South Putnam swim teams hosted their annual holiday tourney Friday morning. The tourney's focus does not surround competition. It keeps the athletes in shape while having fun.

Instead of the standard swim meet, this tourney is made up entirely of relays, fourteen to be exact. South Putnam's competition came from Cascade, Speedway, and West Vigo.

The meet was a fun meet after a big holiday break, but the swimmers are working hard and are making the coaches proud of their accomplishments.

"We haven't swam any of these teams yet," stated Eagle Coach Emily Coers, "but it was good to see what we are up against. They are good teams with good coaches." This made for good competition between the schools.

Diving was also considered a relay of sorts. During a standard meet, each diver will dive six dives each. For this competition, each school dove six dives. Whether the school had two divers, or three divers, for example, the dives were split between these athletes.

South Putnam had two divers who each dove three times. For the first meet back from the holidays, the diving coach, Adam McCullough, felt they dove fairly well. They are working hard, but there is always room for improvement.

Winners for the Eagles on the day were the boys' breastroke relay of Jake Gould, Loren Ashcraft, Darrick Grundlock and Sam Gould and the boys' butterfly relay of Jake Gould, Chris Smiley, Andrew Whitman and Matt Huck.

No score was kept. The meet was looked at as fun and a way to get back into the groove of school events.
