Betty I. Stites

Betty I. Stites, 84, of Crawfordsville died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at St. Clare Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 29, 1924 to Charles and Emma Cable Lewis in Crawfordsville. She attended Crawfordsville High School and retired from Sommer Metal Craft. She married Roy O. Stites. He preceded her in death February of 1966.

Mrs. Stites was a charter and lifetime member of the Crawfordsville Eagle's Ladies Auxiliary and VFW.

She is survived by a daughter Janet Hobson; grandchildren Chris Hobson and wife Pam of Greencastle and Annette Handy and husband Tom of Greencastle, three great-grandchildren, a sister Violet Long and husband Bill, sister-in-law Marie Lewis as well as several nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruby Zick and Helen Proffit, brothers Bob and Fred Lewis, son-in-law Gary Hobson and companion John Egelson Sr.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with the Rev. Doug Givan officiating. The Eagles Auxiliary will conduct services just prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Clinton Falls Cemetery.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service.
