Clover wrestlers receive inspiring words

Thursday, January 29, 2009

The Cloverdale High School wrestling team welcomed Shelby Wilson to the Cloverdale wrestling room Monday. Wilson visited the Clovers to help them prepare for the upcoming Sectional tournament.

Wilson was a 1960 Olympic Champion in Rome, a two-time NCAA runner-up while wrestling for Oklahoma State University. During his wrestling career, Wilson lost only five times; three times in high school and two times in college. Coach Wilson was the head wrestling coach at the University of Colorado for seven years and is now a part of the Indiana University coaching staff.

"Coach Wilson also spent a number of years working with the Owen Valley wrestling team and that's where I got to know him," CHS head coach Steve Livingston said. "This was a great honor for the Cloverdale wrestling team and coaches. I hope Coach Wilson's visit was both enjoyable and inspiring for our wrestlers."

Cloverdale will compete at the Avon Sectional this Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
