Burglary case proceeding to trial

Friday, January 30, 2009

The case of one of two defendants allegedly involved in an October break-in that occurred in Cloverdale will proceed to trial.

Jared T. Robbins, 21, of Cloverdale is charged with Class C felonies burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary and Class D felony theft. The deadline for any plea agreements between the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office and Robbins was Jan. 22, and none have been filed.

On Thursday, Robbins was in Putnam County Superior Court for his final pretrial conference. Senior Judge Diana LaViolette said the case would move forward to a jury trial, which is slated to begin on Feb. 18.

"This is a fairly straightforward matter," LaViolette said.

Robbins has been in jail since his arrest on Oct. 14. He has been unable to post 10 percent of a $30,000 bond, which was set the same day.

Robbins was arrested after he and another man allegedly broke into a neighbor's pole barn and stole two all-terrain vehicles.

Robbins' co-defendant, Justin Manning, 22, pled guilty to Class D felony on Jan. 26 in connection with the incident. In exchange, two Class C felony counts -- burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary -- against Manning were dropped.

As part of his plea agreement, Manning also agreed to cooperate in the prosecution of Robbins.

Manning is currently on probation in Hendricks County, and will likely have to serve a portion or all of a suspended sentence there. Once his case is resolved in Hendricks County, he will be brought back to Putnam County for sentencing.
