Pretrial set for burglary suspect

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

A pretrial conference has been set for a Coatesville man accused of stealing items from a car parked in the driveway of Cloverdale residence.

Thomas R. Kratt, 23, is charged with Class B felony burglary and Class D felony theft. Judge Matthew Headley set Kratt's pretrial conference for March 19, and set bond at $10,000 with 10 percent allowed.

Kratt posted bond on the day of his arrest. Headley ordered that as a condition of that bond Kratt must enroll in Hamilton Center programs immediately and report daily to the Putnam County Adult Probation Department.

A Class B felony is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, while the maximum sentence for a Class D felony is three years.

According to court documents, officers were dispatched to a Cloverdale residence in the early morning hours of Jan. 21 to investigate a possible burglary.

The victims told police hat had been awakened by the barking of their dogs, and had discovered an unknown male entering one of the vehicles parked in their driveway. The victim fled on foot.

While the victims were trying to find the man who had fled, they discovered a vehicle near the end of their driveway. Shortly after, the male subject returned and confronted the victims, stating the vehicle at the end of the driveway was his and that he wanted to leave in it.

Law enforcement officers arrived, and after a pat-down search the male was identified as Kratt. Police ran the plates of the unknown car, and they returned to Kratt.

Kratt's vehicle was "packed full" of motorcycle helmets and riding equipment, computers and tools, court documents said.

Kratt confessed to police that he had stolen most of the items in his car from another house just south of the residence where he was apprehended.

Kratt also has charges of Class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana pending against him in Putnam County Circuit Court.

  • Another "worlds dumbest criminal"episode? He took off running on foot only to remember he drove his own car into the victoms driveway and forgot? Did he mention the corpse in the trunk by sayin, "and i dont know anything about that dead guy in the trunk!" He maybe had left in his car, that bank note"this is a stick up" that he had written on the back of a deposit slip from his checkbook with his name and address on the other side.Maybe next time he can walk into the driveway backwards so the victoms cant tell if he is coming or going....

  • honestyisbestpolicy, I see you have shown your stupidity for everyone to read. Perhaps you should learn how to spell BEFORE you write your comments. Maybe before you start posting comments about people (ex. "worlds dumbest criminal") you shouldn't show people how dumb you are! Just a thought.

  • Desperate seems more like it. He immediately confessed to what he had done. Denying it would have been dumb.

  • Before you start throwing stones, perhaps you should clean out your own closest! We all sin and fall short. The God I serve, is a forgiving God, sent his Son to die for ALL our sins. Bible warns about judging others. It really is a good book, perhaps you should think about reading it. If you are having trouble understanding it, maybe you could attend church on Sundays and have it explained to you! Instead of putting others down, and not even knowing ALL the facts, maybe get on your knees and pray! WOW, now thats a thought!
