NPMS swim teams in action

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam Middle School swim teams faced off with Fountain Central and North Vermillion Wednesday. The North Putnam boys won 145-129, while the girls fell 127-91 to Fountain Central. North Vermillion did not have a team score.

The NP boys had eight top finishes and two records set in the event.

Jacob Hendershot posted a time of 36.06 in the 50-yard breaststroke for a record and won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.84. Joey Lehr clocked a record time of 32.65 in the 50-yard backstroke, while Dane Gray won the 200-yard freestyle (2:47.82) and the 400-yard freestyle (6:13.82). Lehr, Hendershot, Zach Moore and Gray won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:14.25.

Lehr, Hendershot, Gray and Ben Huber teamed up to win the 400-yard free relay and Moore captured diving the diving title. No times or total score were provided for these events.

For the girls, Halsey Foltz captured two events on the evening, winning the 50-yard freestyle (29.6) and the 50-yard backstroke (44.52). Caroline Byrd took the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 31.80, as Molly Wilcox won the 100-yard freestyle with the time of 1:12.60.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Foltz, Wilcox, Byrd and Ellese Cox paced the field with a time of 7:06.69.

On Tuesday, the Cougars swim teams batted Cascade, with the boys falling 98-77 and the girls 107-75.

The boys' squad had five first place finishers and two new records set.

Gray won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:52.50 and the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 6:06.51. Hendershot won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 36.69, while Moore logged a new record in the diving event with a dive total of 140.15.

Joey Lehr, Gray, Moore and Hendershot teamed up and clocked a new record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:12.50.

The girls had five top finishers on the evening and also knocked down three records of their own.

Byrd finished first in the 100-yard IM in a time of 1:14.76 and the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 31.59, both of which were records. Foltz took honors in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.94 and the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 34.18. The team of Foltz, Molly Wilcox, Byrd and Tia Scoggan won the 200-yard free relay in a time of 2:07.12.

Foltz, Wilcox, Byrd and Scoggan took down the 200-yard medley relay record, with a time of 2:17.57.

North Putnam travels to Southmont at 6 p.m.
