Tigers complete perfect home season

It couldn't have ended any better.

The DePauw men's basketball team completed a flawless 13-0 regular season on its home court Sunday when it stomped Sewanee 80-46.

"I thought it was a really good bounce back from a disappointing performance last weekend and I was really pleased with how our guys came out and performed today," DPU Coach Bill Fenlon said.

Outside when Kenton Coleman drained three-pointer right at the start giving Sewanee its first lead of the game, his team never led again in the game.

DPU took the lead with 17:54 left in the first half when Mike Moore hit a three-pointer, making the score 5-3 and never relinquished it.

"I thought our defensive energy was really good all weekend," Fenlon said. "I was happy that we played well offensively, but I have been extremely happy with the way this team has progressed defensively."

The Tigers defense kept Sewanee from getting any second chance shots by crashing the boards non-stop. DePauw had 26 defensive rebounds and 34 total in the game, led by Tom Callen who ripped down 10 rebounds, seven of which were defensive.

At the half DePauw led 33-21.

In the second half the story was the same. DePauw's defense never let up, forcing Sewanee to turn over the ball for the easy bucket, 10 easy points that is.

But when the defense wasn't forcing turnovers, it was Mike Moore who was leading the offensive charge for the Tigers. Moore finished the day with 17 points and eight assists.

"He is a high energy player and has his finger on the pulse of this team and if he is solid then we will be solid," Fenlon said.

Moore wasn't the only one in double digits for the night; Callen finished with 16 points also along with Joe Bergfeld who had 10.

The 12-point deficit that Sewanee had at the half was the closest it ever got to the lead for the remainder of the game.

"When you shoot 70 percent from the floor in a half, you don't give the other team to many chances," Fenlon said.

The Tigers finished the regular season 19-6 and 11-3 in the SCAC and will start play in the SCAC tournament on Friday.
