Putnam County Hospital lays off 15 employees

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Putnam County Hospital administration announced Tuesday afternoon that it would reduce staff by 15 employees in nine departments due to recent economic conditions.

"We all have had to make sacrifices to some degree," said Dennis Weatherford, Executive Director of the hospital. "Each department was asked to make modifications to help decrease expenditures and, unfortunately, in some areas, that meant that we needed to reduce our staff.

"We are acting to ensure the future of the organization and to continue in providing quality healthcare for our local community and surrounding areas," said Weatherford.

The reduction affects 3.7 percent of the hospital staff. No details were available about what departments were affected.

A statement released by the hospital stated that the facility would continue to provide services to the community.

"It is our hope that these undesirable dismissals will be all that is needed during this time of hardship. As individuals, as a community and as a nation, we are all facing difficult decisions during this recession," the statement read.

Putnam County Hospital is located at 1542 Bloomington Street, Greencastle.

  • Sad that it wasn't done according to job performance, rather than favoritism. Who polices the police over there, anyway???

  • The only thing I see in this economy is the lact of respect from employers. I understand cut backs but why doesn't the employee deserve some kind of notice?? I am talking about all of these places doing this. You come in and your hit with "Today will be your last." God bless those you have lost your jobs, including myself. Have faith, God has a plan for our lives.

  • That was 15 Tuesday, but you neglected to get the count for Monday. And, how about last week, and the week before that?

Who is now cleaning that bed that you will be sleeping on? Who is now washing the bedlinens? Who is left to clean the surgery rooms? Yuck!

"IBEME"--I guess your daddy isn't pals with the CEO. The people of this town deserve better.

  • 15 people is only 3.7% - that means the staff is (was) over 400 people (!). Must be a lot of night and part time help, because I've never seen anything like 400 on the premises. Very typical way of making the cuts, tell the people the same time you tell the media.

  • All company's do this, were I work the last lay off they had they said it was 30 people (in the Banner) and it was more like 50 or 55. I guess they think we can not count because we work on a assembly line or in manufacturing and are not a bean counter or adminstrative goon. They tell the Banner what they want the public to know. I don't beleive most of what I read these days or hear on the news.
