Benefit for DeBoer family takes place Friday

Thursday, March 12, 2009

A family benefit for the Janice DeBoer family will take place Friday, March 13 in the North Putnam Middle School Commons. DeBoer passed away this week following a long battle with ovarian cancer.

The DeBoer family is well known in the Bainbridge area. Janice worked as the secretary for Bainbridge Elementary for many years and her husband Don was the Assistant Principal at North Putnam for 18 years. All three of their daughters graduated from North Putnam and live in the Bainbridge area.

For many years DeBoer battled cancer and then went into remission. Unfortunately the disease returned and metastasized to her colon, stomach and brain. She died Monday. She was 64 years old.

Dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. and includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, dessert and a drink for $6 per adult and $3 for children. An alternate meal of hot dog, macaroni and cheese, chips, a dessert and drink will be available.

There will be a cakewalk going on all evening and a live auction of new items begins at 6:30 p.m.. After the auction, Bingo will be played in honor of Janice who loved playing the game. Prizes will be awarded for Bingo.

The group putting on the benefit is still in need of food donations, as well as items for the auction. If anyone would like to help in any way, please contact Brandy Ault at 522-1031.

  • Not to be disrespectful, but where will the money go? Is it for a donation to a cancer center or research or for a family fund?

  • All monies raised will be given to the DeBoer family to help pay for medical expenses. The sad part about someone being terminally ill is that it not only takes a tremendous emotional toll on the family, but the added burden of huge medical bills on top of it is just nearly overwhelming. We hope the benefit will help alleviate some of this burden for the family. Janice will be greatly missed---our prayers are with Don, Donna, Darcie, Daon, and the rest of the family.

  • My thoughts and prayer go out to the DeBore family. Janice was the one who held my hand and assured me that it will be ok on my first day of shcool at Bainbridge, and her husband Don was my Assistant Principal at NPHS. Janice was a very caring person and she will be missed greatly.

  • I don't think jimsgirl was being disrespectful, just asking where the proceeds would be directed. I was involved in the benefit, and a lot of people asked the same question because they wanted to make sure the family would receive the funds.

Thank you to everyone who participated. It was a huge success and a real reminder of how a community can come together in a time of need and hold one another up. We are truly blessed, and give God ALL of the glory for what he was able to do last Friday night.
