Greencastle claims WCAA Championship

The South Putnam wrestling team placed second at the WCAA meet at Cloverdale Saturday with a total of 261. The Eagles finished just two points outside of first place

CLOVERDALE -- Cloverdale hosted the WCAA wrestling conference tournament this past Saturday. Greencastle won the event with a total of 263, South Putnam placed second with 261, the host Clovers finished fourth with 219.5 and North Putnam ended the day in sixth place with 153.

Greencastle had five wrestlers capture individual championships in the event. Nick Pingleton, Kody Collins, Tyler Hudson, Jake Rickenbaugh and Jorden Froderman accounted for the first place finishes.

Hunter Smith, Carter Lewis, Quincy Hayes, Cody Mundy and Dustin Williams had second place finishes, with Kellen Alspaugh and Blaine Fenwick finishing third.

South Putnam also had a solid day, with Nick Owen, Klayton Vittetow, J.T. Franklin, Trent Workman and Sam Sloan earning championships.

Collin Berry, Joe Waters and Marcus Skinner placed second; Zane Crosby, Brandon Smith and Tanner Thompson placed third; with Ian Zeffel, Rhaine Cluggish and Morgan Grundlock finishing the day with fourth place spots.

Kaleb Camacho, Jacob Creasey and Jacob Camacho paced the Cloverdale squad with first place finishes on the day.

Also for the Clovers, Dale Inman, Jacob Scobee, Max Secrest and Derek Noon placed second; while Jacob Waycott, Payton Skadra, Bill Petrosky, Andrew Howard and Colton Wilkes placing fourth. Zoeanne Frank and Skyler Mann wrestled, but no place was given.

In the B Tournament, Greencastle's Brandon Gillespie and Zeb Rumley placed first; Riley Jayne, Nathan Meadows and Clint Byrd came in second and Devin Monney and Dylan Price placed third.

South Putnam had two individual champions in Clayton Spencer and Rudy Harris. Colton Bunton and Lane Hacker finished in second place.

Garry Spencer and Colton Wilkes scored first place finishes for Cloverdale; while Jackson Szczerbik and Alex Kilgore placed second. Eddie Brown wrestled, but no place was given.

No individual results were provided for North Putnam

The wrestling teams from all county schools will compete in the Putnam County Championships today at 6 p.m. at Cloverdale High School
