Sharing the luck

Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Every St. Patrick's Day, Morris Taylor can be seen around Greencastle in his hard to miss green beard, hat and shoes. He was in Wal-Mart Monday having his beard painted at the styling salon by Chelsea Rise.

Each St. Patrick's Day for the past several years, Morris Taylor has donned his green shoes and hat; gone to the beauty salon at Wal-Mart and had his beard turned green; and spread good luck all over Greencastle.

"I take pictures with people and just act crazy," he laughed.

He has done this for four or five years, despite his children telling him he was crazy.

"I do it any way," he grinned.

With an English and Irish background, he enjoys making people smile.

"I always wanted to be a clown and never had the nerve," he said.

The green hat he wears is an old Stetson he bought in 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska. He worked with it until he turned it into a hillbilly hat and painted it green. His shoes match his beard and even his cane gets a swatch of green.

"I meet a lot of people and it's nice to see them smile," he noted.
