GHS hosting Dance-A-Thon to raise funds for Relay

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Get out the dancing shoes for the Greencastle High School Dance-a-thon set for April 11 from 6 p.m. to midnight in McAnally Center. Proceeds from the event will go to Relay For Life.

The contest is for couples and cost is $20 per pair. Anyone interested in watching the event or wanting to dance without being in the contest will be charged $5 at the door. A school ID must be presented, if not registered for the event. Couples should purchase tickets ahead of time.

Registration will take place during lunch hours at the high school. To participate, enter name and receive a number for the competition.

All couples will dance for 50 minutes and have a 10-minute rest every hour. Refreshments will be available to the dancers at no cost and can be purchased by those attending, but not taking part in the contest.

"In the past GHS has had several fundraisers and contributed greatly to the cause. This year, we would like to take our efforts to the next level by hosting the dance-a-thon," said dance chairman and GHS senior Kullan Edberg.

At the end of six hours, if there is more than one couple remaining, a dance competition will ensue. Judges will watch the remaining couples and choose the most talented. The winning couple will receive a $200 cash prize.

Alternative entertainment will also be provided. Games around the top of McAnally (similar to post-prom style) will be free and available to all who attend. Guest performance artist may also appear.

For more information, check out the Dance-a-thon sign-up table in the lunchroom at GHS.

  • This is a GREAT idea but why not open it up to the entire community/county? It appears, since sign up is ONLY at GHS during lunch, it's limited to GHS students only. There are TONS of adults who have no place to go in GC or Putnam County to go dance. This is a great opportunity for that AND do it for a good cause. The same goes for ALL Putnam County High Schoolers. This might help bring friends together for a good cause. Something to make you go mmmmmmmmmm.
