The GMS seventh grade girls' basketball team won the Putnam County title by defeating host South Putnam 25-16 Thursday.

"These young ladies worked very hard and improved dramatically," GMS head coach Bill Earl said. "They represented their school well, both on and off the court. Our number one team goal was to win our last game and cut some net."

The Lady Tigers Cubs jumped out to an early 9-0 first quarter lead, but the Eagles clawed back to only trail by three at the half.

The third quarter ended with GMS holding a one point advantage at 15-14. The final stanza belonged to Greencastle as they pressed their way to a 10-2 advantage for the win.

Shelby Earl led the way with 15 points, followed by Corrine Trigg and Shelby Bonebrake with four points each. Miranda Nuz scored two points for the Lady Tiger Cubs.

GMS finished the season 7-5 winning six of their last seven games.
