Theresa Gygi, Mary VanHook, Angie Weeks, Sarah Whitlock and Tori Gygi of the Putnam County Spinners Guild work on projects at a recent meeting. The spinners guild will take part in the Fiber Event festivities April 10 and 11 at the fairgrounds.

The third annual Fiber Event at Greencastle will be held April 10 and 11 at Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Numerous vendors will be on hand offering fibers, equipment and other fiber related items. Workshops such as tools of the trade, designing a sweater or vest from a sweatshirt, spinning for lace and spinning recycled materials will be offered.

Registration for the workshops can be done at www.thefiberevent.com and click on workshops tab. The fee for half-day classes is $35 and $70 for full-day classes.

Two competitions will be held Saturday. In the skein competition, participants can register under beginner or experienced levels. Registration will take place between 9 and 11 a.m. Saturday in the community building.

The fleece competition will have white and natural colored divisions with three classes. Registration for this competition will be during the same times as skein.

There is a $3 fee to register for either competition.

Although there are costs associated with the workshops and competitions, parking and admission are free. The public is encouraged to attend both days of the event.

Complete details on the workshops and a list of all vendors and competitions can be found at the Web site above.

  • Did anyone else read the headline and first few lines and wonder why they have an event for supporters of Metamucil and Bran flakes?

The organizers should really consider a different name.
