Proposed city ordinance to establish permanent sustainability commission

Friday, April 3, 2009

Members of the Greencastle Sustainability Committee heard good news Wednesday evening. Mayor Sue Murray shared a city ordinance draft creating a special sustainability commission for a partnership between the city government and all relevant community entities.

Murray also shared news of an important step in completing the Albin Pond Trail portion of People Pathways and the city's early exploration of a bio-fuels program.

Sustainability will be on the agenda at the City Council meeting on April 14.

The farmers' market planning group, in partnership with Main Street Greencastle, plans to expand the downtown farmers' market slated to open for the season on May 30.

Joy Marley with People Pathways gave an update on the Transit work group, including information about replacing and updating pathway signage.

The committee agreed to continue working in groups for projects already identified but to hold off on creating any additional structure until a commission is created.

A copy of the Sustainability Committee's report is available on the city's home page at www.cityofgreencastle.com
